Question: According to a recent study, 75% of us will do this this month even though it is considered risky. What is it?

Answer: Clean your ears out with a cotton swab!

According to the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Harvard Health, and other professional groups, it can be dangerous to put a cotton swab in your ear due to the risk of ear wax impaction, eardrum damage, and hearing loss. Do you still clean your ears out with a cotton swab? Seems like a lot of us like to live on the edge.

While cleaning your ears with a cotton swab might be considered dangerous, what is even more dangerous is not cleaning our spiritual ears out so we can hear the voice of our Savior. It’s so easy to be distracted by the voices of the world around us that we can’t hear the voice of the One who loves us the most and wants to communicate with us. As we head into the summer, and the last quarter of our church ministry year, we want to begin listening for what the Lord might have for us as a community over the next year or so. Pastor Jill leads us today in a midrash sermon, noticing and wondering in God’s word on this very subject. It’s called “Listening to God Together.”
