Question: According to a recent study, one of these should last at least 20 seconds. What is it?

Answer: A hug!

Do you like hugs? According to experts, a hug does amazing things for us when it lasts at least 20 seconds. It releases “feel-good” hormones (oxytocin, dopamine, serotonin), endorphins that help lowering the stress hormone cortisol, reduces blood pressure and heart rate, boosts the immune system, and fosters connection, trust, and feelings of safety. That leads to less anxiety, a better mood, and even faster healing. This sense of wellbeing that we experience during a good hug affects our entire being (mind, body, and spirit) in powerful ways. The Hebrew word for “peace” (“Shalom”) means wholeness. It’s that sense of wellbeing we all long for. Today is the 4th Sunday of advent, and Pastor Jill brings us a message called “Becoming a People of Peace.”
