Barriers & Blindspots to Following Jesus
Passage: John 4:1–4:30
Our three Summer Servants are introduced before the sermon.
Question: When it comes to our body, this is true for approximately 2% of people on Earth. What is it?
Answer: Their armpits don’t smell!
Do you ever wonder who comes up with a study like this? And how did they do the research? Imagine if your job was gathering the empirical data for that one. A job like that would really stink.
You know what else really stinks? Prejudice. Discrimination. Favoritism. Such things are common in our world and even in the church. But when we favor some people (and mistreat others) based on their race, gender, religion, or reputation — that stinks. When we fail to see people as God sees them, we won’t love people as God loves them. Jesus refused to discriminate and so should we.
This morning, Steve will bring a sermon about loving people different than us, people others might reject. His message is called "Barriers & Blindspots to Following Jesus." It is the final sermon in our 2018 spring sermon series "Loving My Actual Neighbor."
