The Hero’s Journey: How Mary Moved From Perplexity to Passion

December 18, 2016 Speaker: Steve Garcia Series: Advent

Topic: The Christmas Story Passage: Luke 1:26–1:56

“But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart” (Luke 2:19).

When you think about her encounters with the angel Gabriel, the Magi, the shepherds, Simeon, and Anna, it is easy to see that Mary had an awful lot to ponder. In fact, so much happened to her that it’s possible to view her as passive, a meek and docile instrument of God. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Mary quivered, struggled, questioned, and questioned more. Then she reported for duty. In her defining moment, she moved from a girl “greatly troubled” to a triumphant soul who declared, “The Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.” In so doing, she became a beloved, inspirational hero to centuries of people outside the camp. Today, you will ponder what God has called you to do and what it will take to move from reluctance to readiness. Pastor Steve's message is called, "The Hero’s Journey :How Mary Moved From Perplexity to Passion.”
