Evangelical
Presbyterian Church -
Our denominational family

Church denominations
are not very "in" these days.
It’s fair to ask, "Why are we in one?"
The truth is, we like being part of a family.
We like having the accountability and encouragement that our denomination, the
Evangelical Presbyterian Church, provides. And we really love the motto of the
EPC:
"In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things,
charity."
Along with the love and support which Celebration Community Church has received
since starting-up in 1998, the EPC has provided us with guidelines for faith
and practice. We receive help in areas of:
- Sound Doctrine.
- Church Government.
- Church Discipline.
- Worship
We don’t have
to reinvent the wheel on such matters. Since the Bible is our ultimate
authority, we have the liberty to depart from denominational positions
in matters that are not viewed as essentials of the Christian faith.
But we have much more agreement than disagreement with our denominational
family.
Our family provides fellowship and partnership in the gospel.
When we have problems, we can call upon them for help. Just like a good family.
If a renegade pastor begins teaching false doctrine or behaving improperly,
the local church can call on their denominational family to "come
along-side" and deal with things. We think that is good.
Likewise, our pastors are connected to one another relationally. Retreats,
gatherings and informal relationships offer real and honest encouragement.
No need to fly solo. No need to be the Lone Ranger.
Our denominational family gives us guidelines for faith and practice, help
in times of trouble and genuine relationship. All this without losing our
unique personality.
We can even have a nickname like, "The Party Church!"
We have the freedom to be ourselves and mature as the Father would have us
do. Those are marks of a loving, healthy family.
